Call for double yellow parking lines to ease traffic congestion on Park Road

Thursday, 14 June 2018

A LOCAL councillor has called for the installation of parking restrictions to ease congestion close to a busy residential area.
Independent representative, Patsy Kelly, is appealing for roads chiefs to provide double yellow lines along the Park Road in Strabane.
The road - which services a number of businesses and housing developments - is regularly used by workers and shoppers to park along causing headaches for locals trying to access the narrow thoroughfare.
Speaking on the issue, Cllr Kelly said: "There is a need for double yellow lines on the left-hand side going down Park Road.
“There are a number of residential developments in the area like Foyleview, Ardnafoyle and Canal Side and it can be a nightmare for residents to get up and down that road with vehicles parking along it.
“There are also a number of business in the area including a builder's merchants so the road can be quite busy and gets congested especially when cars are coming in both directions."
Cllr Kelly added: "I have been raising this issue for the last two or three years and I'm still waiting for Road Service to act.
“Something has be done for the benefit of residents and the businesses using it day and daily. It can be especially busy for motorists trying to use the junction out on to Railway Street.
“Residents regularly bring it up to me of how difficult it can be to get in and out of their homes with the parking. Lines need to be put in to prevent the cars parking there to begin with and the wardens then need to be enforcing the laws."
