Parish priest hopes graveyard vandalism is ‘a one-off’

Thursday, 10 May 2018

A LOCAL priest says he hopes the 'outrageous' vandalism of graves in the town is 'a one-off' act.
Rev Declan Boland, Camus parish priest, was speaking out following the desecration of a number of graves at Strabane Cemetery in the Head of the Town.
Ornaments and memorial statues were smashed and floral tributes were also damaged overnight between Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.
Images of the damage were posted on Facebook by Strabane PSNI prompting outrage with some of those whose family graves had been targeted since speaking out and sharing their heartbreak and distress.
Fr Boland has condemned the actions of the 'mindless people' involved and says he hopes there will be no repeat of the 'outrageous behaviour'.
He said: "The recent vandalism in the local cemetery has brought distress and pain to several families.
“Some mindless people went on a rampage destroying statues, grave borders and many personal items placed on the graves of loved ones.
