Strong second half hands Roes the derby spoils.

Thursday, 12 April 2018

WITH a narrow loss for Owen Roes last week in Kildress and Strabane eking out a draw against Loughmacrory, two points for either side were vital in this ACL Division Two north west derby tie in Leckpatrick.

OWEN ROES...1-10
LIMERICK...0-03

But it would be the home side who delivered a strong second half display to run out comfortable ten point winners.

It was the Sigersons who made the early impact from a pointed free with the hosts posting five wides within the first seven minutes. The Roe's could have an early bonus however when Ronan McNulty nipped in and drove low and hard but his shot went across the goal mouth and wide.

McNulty however soon made amends when he spotted the incoming Brendan Boggs who finally got his men on the scoreboard 10 minutes in. Strabane pointed again but Conor O'Neill levelled from a free before Andy Devine in the Leckpatrick nets pulled off a fine save on 25 minutes.

Boggs picked off another point but Strabane were able to level affairs just before the half-time whistle with a free from Danny Mc Bride, leaving it three points apiece.

If the first half was a tight game, the second half was to prove otherwise. Points for Cathal McShane, Ryan McAleer and McNulty saw the home side stretch into a lead before a rasper of a goal from Tony Devine saw the Roe's finally put the pressure on the visitors. Indeed the lead could have been made wider had Cathal McShane's penalty not been saved.

McShane made amends a few minutes later with a pointed free and it was he who then set up Seamus Dooher for another point.

Mc hane pointed again and the game finished with a another point from his brother Gerard.
