Searches continue for missing Strabane woman

SEARCHES are continuing this week for missing Strabane woman, Lesley McHugh.

The 69-year-old from Brookvale, Melmount, was last spoken to at around 11pm on Saturday, January 6.

Her car, a silver Peugeot 207, was located the following evening.

A highly respected woman, Mrs McHugh was a former hairdresser and well-known to many in the area.

Since her disappearance, a team of volunteers and members from Community Search and Rescue (CSR) and Mourne River Search and Rescue (MRSAR) have continued to search daily along the Rivers Mourne and Foyle.

Foyle Search and Rescue and have also been assisting alongside specialist search dog team, Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) Ireland North.

Rescue teams have urged members of the public wishing to assist to take care and to be aware of the dangers surrounding the water.

On Saturday, a team of divers from the Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery travelled from Drogheda to help with the searches.

The same team assisted in the searches for Sean 'Smurf' Diver in 2016.

Mrs McHugh's family have said they are immensely grateful for all the help and support they have received and have extended their thanks to all the volunteers and agencies involved.

At the time of going to press yesterday (Tuesday) the searches were ongoing.
