Strathroy made to sweat by Killen. thumbnailTristan Roberts on the ball for Killen Rangers.

KILLEN Rangers almost pulled off a miraculous comeback against champions Strathroy Harps at Omagh Leisure Complex on Saturday after noon.

Harps were 4-0 up and cruising by 70 minutes, and the threat from the visitors looked to be long extinguished until they pulled back three goals in the remainder of the game to almost come away with a remarkable draw.

Harps though managed to hold on for the win over the plucky village men.

Shane Horisk's were well on top in the first half, and they got off the mark when Killen's Chris Barclay deflected the ball into his own net. The lead was doubled just before half-time when Joachim Smith lifted the ball over Killen keeper Ward.

Straight from the restart, Strathroy picked things up where they left off when Patrick Nugent took off down the left wing to cut inside and fire home. Nugent again was involved as Harps stretched their lead to four, beginning a move that involved Kevin Sloan and Darren Teague before the finishing touch was added by Aidy McCaffrey.

Rangers began their fightback though on 70 minutes when Tristan Roberts set up Dylan Stronge, before David Bogle converted from a Graham Young pass.

With Killen now buoyant, they pounced for their third when a long ball from Bogle was powered in by Darren Long. Harps then had Teague sent off as the gallant Killen continued to search for a remarkable equaliser, and they had calls for a penalty turned down when referee Brian Gault waved away a handball appeal following Trevor Irwin's cross into the Strathroy box.

Harps were able to survive to the end though and, just about, claimed the three league points.
