National bronze medal for Claire. thumbnail Claire McGuigan won a bronze medal at the the Irish Life Health National Senior & Even Age XC Championships in Abbotstown, Dublin.

SUNDAY, November 26, was the Irish Life Health National Senior & Even Age XC Championships, at the purpose built National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin. Several Lifford Strabane AC athletes made the journey down to compete at this very high quality cross-country race alongside their coaches & parents.

In the Senior Women's 8K race, the club was represented by Claire McGuigan who finished in a fantastic time of 32:47 placing 36th overall which resulted in Claire's placing aiding the Donegal Senior Women's team to take third place, earning a national senior bronze medal. l.

In the same race distance of 8K, Lifford Strabane AC 's Jessica Moorehead competed in the U23 category. This was a first-time experience of a race at this level for this young female athlete which will only benefit her immensely in her future athletic career. Jessica had a strong run to finish in a time of 37:53.

In the U12's Girls Lifford Strabane AC was represented by Elsa Moore, Ella Costello and Ashleigh McArdle. These young girls will now go on to compete in the Irish Health Cross-Country Championships in December.

In the Junior Boys race, Alan McGinley placed 64th overall in a time of 21:25, with Niall Elliott placing 78th in a time of 21:39.

On the same day at the Fermanagh Half Marathon, club athlete Maddy McCurdy took to the start line. The race takes place in the scenic Fermanagh countryside, starting at the Teemore Shamrocks GFC grounds.

The course itself boasts of a beautiful flat run with a few short hills on an out and back route through the parish. Despite the windy conditions Maddy finished in a great time of 1:58:09.

Last weekend club athlete Martin Kelly finished second in the charity 5K Run for Asthma. Martin had another great run to finish in a time of 19:52 Other News The club held their AGM, on Tuesday, November 21, at the clubhouse where a newly formed committee was elected by those present.

Training continues for all age groups.

Juveniles Monday 6:30pm and Wednesday 6:30pm (over 10's only).

Walking Group Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30pm. Adults Tuesday and Thursdays 6:30pm.
