DERGVIEW'S fortunes continue to be on the upswing with a 3-1 win over Lurgan Celtic at a sunny Knockrammer Park on Saturday.

The win means Richard Clarke's men have now collected eight points from their last four games after a slow start to the Bluefiin Sports Championship campaign.

The game had barely begun when the visitors took the lead following an excellent strike by Richard Lynch from distance that looped over Conor McCorry in the Celtic nets.

Celtic's Adam Rodgers fired a snapshot on goal with almost half an hour gone which was well held by the Dergview keeper Alan Buchanan, who also then produced an excellent save to prevent Celtic's Gibson scoring from a chipped effort.

Dergview could have doubled their lead following a turn and shot from Stephen Browne in the box that narrowly missed the target, but the lead stayed at 1-0 until half-time.

Eight minutes into the second period Lurgan got their leveller though when Strabane native Warner Mullen applied the finishing touch to a sweeping move involving both Brendan Shannon and Jordan Bell.

The hosts were beginning to dominate proceedings as they looked to take the lead, but Buchanan was in inspired form in the Dergview goal, thwarting numerous dangerous efforts.

Dergview weathered the storm and with only ten minutes remaining in the contest they won a free kick just outside the penalty area, which was was clinically dispatched by Adam Buchanan into the bottom left corner.

This was followed by a straight red card being issued to Adam Rodgers for a reckless challenge, which all but ended any Lurgan hopes of salvaging a point.

All that remained was for Dergview to extend their lead and seal the win, courtesy of an exquisite finish from distance by Buchanan again, following an assist from Matty Callaghan.
