Local schools in running for host of top accolades

A NUMBER of schools and their staff across Strabane are in the running for a host of top accolades in the Families First Awards.

The awards have been running bi-annually for the last decade and seek to acknowledge people and organisations across the North West who display excellence in putting families first and accommodating children of all abilities.

The awards, which are based on public vote, will be announced at a special ceremony at the Abbey Hotel in Donegal on Friday, October 7.

St Columba's Primary School in Clady have their hopes pinned on being crowned 'Best Primary School' whilst principal, Collette Maguire, is up for the 'Best Primary School Principal' award.

The school's Stephen Lafferty is also in the running for 'Best Primary School Teacher' alongside Laura Gormley from St Eugene's Primary School, Victoria Bridge and Andrea Devine, from St Mary's Primary School, Cloughcor.

Elsewhere, Alison Preston from Artigarvan Community Nursery and Ann Maguire, Sion Mills Nursery, are both in the running for the 'Best Nursey Teacher' accolade.

Knockavoe School and Resource Centre in Strabane is in contention for two awards. They are 'Best After School' and 'Best School Facility for Special Needs'.
