STRABANE have won the Championship title and clinched promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt after a crushing win over second placed Ballyspallen.

An Aaron Gillespie century coupled with 66 from Kevin Pretorius and 40 from Ryan Gallagher saw the Red Caps post 276 for 5 from their 50 overs.

The home side's reply was going well early on after Stephen Kennedy (43) and Graham Kennedy (20) helped get them to get to 75-1, however the game turned when Tommy Barr (4-30) claimed the wickets of the Averill boys- Craig and Mark- in successive deliveries.

'Spallen struggled to get any momentum after that and batted for 45 overs to post a total of 150 as the league leaders sealed the title in style.

That said, at least Lee Ritchie's men have a play-off game to look forward to after Killyclooney beat Newbuildings by 10 wickets. Jordan Connor claimed 4-36 as the home side were dismissed for 131, and the Moan boys Darren (64 not out) and Giles (44 not out) sealed the most emphatic win of the day.

At the bottom, it may well come down to bonus points to decide who goes into the play-off against Sion Mills after Bonds Glen hammered Burndennett by 135 runs.

Half centuries for Derek Curry and Graham Boyd saw the Bee Gees rack up 244 and 5 wickets for Kyle Magee ensured the visitors never got close.
