Thursday, 9 February 2017
TWENTY sixteen was a big year for Sion Swifts Ladies FC both on and off the pitch.
The club is going from strength to strength and they have now successfully completed the McDonald's Irish FA Foundation Club Mark scheme.
89 clubs across Northern Ireland have been awarded the McDonald's Irish FA Foundation Club Mark scheme since its launch in 2014. The scheme offers coach education bursaries, free equipment and 12 hours of coach mentoring to club coaches operating in grassroots football clubs. They now aim to go one step further and completed the Club Mark scheme.
Working closely with Kevin Doherty (Regional Grassroots Development Officer) over several weeks, the clubs can now demonstrate that they have essential governance, promote a 'football for all' ethos and are raising the coaching standards by developing their coaches through Irish FA courses.
Kevin commented: "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone connected with the club. It has been a pleasure to work and assist the club with this award. They have the best interests of the girls in mind with regard to every decision they make and are constantly looking to develop all aspects of the club so it can thrive and prosper."
Grassroots Development Manager, Ian Stewart, stated: "Our Grassroots Development Officers have done a fantastic job working with clubs across Northern Ireland to achieve this standard. It is a credit to the clubs and individuals involved that the community can benefit from their hard work and dedication to football in Northern Ireland.
“I look forward to seeing Sion Swifts Ladies being nominated in the future for a Club of the Year Award as part of McDonald's Irish FA Community Awards."
