New baby joy brings ‘perfect start’ to 2017 for Aghyaran family thumbnailMartin and Fiona Baird, 19A Aghyaran Road Upper, Castlederg, pictured at home with their new arrival, baby Elena, a baby sister for Adam and Carla, born at 9.38am on New Year's Day at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry, weighing nine pounds 11 ounces.

WHILE many of us were ringing in the New Year with Jools Holland and wading our way through the Christmas left-overs, one local family was celebrating a beautiful new addition.
The Baird family, from Aghyaran, welcomed a gorgeous little baby girl into the world on the morning of New Year's day.
Mum Fiona and her husband Martin were "proud" to add Elena to their family, who was born at 9.28am, weighing nine pounds and 11 ounces, with the help of maternity ward staff in Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry.
Elena is little sister to Adam who is seven and Carla who is four and Fiona said there was great excitement in their household in the run up to Elena's arrival.
Speaking to the Strabane Weekly News yesterday, (Tuesday), mum Fiona said Elena's birth was "the perfect start to the year."
"She was 10 days overdue but it came very fast," she said. "She's perfect and it was the perfect start to the year.
"They (Elena's brother and sister) have been waiting all over Christmas and we are indeed very proud."
Paying tribute to the maternity staff at Altnagelvin Hospital, Fiona added: "They were all amazing, they are very special people."
