FOYLE Hospice's first ever Strabane midnight walk, in association with Eclipse Cinema's Lifford/Strabane, took place on Friday night - with an amazing turnout of 540 ladies hitting the roads of Strabane all in aid of the Hospice.
“On behalf of everyone at the Hospice I would like to thank all the ladies of Strabane and surrounding areas for coming out and supporting our new event," Rachel Bruce, community fundraiser with the Foyle Hospice, said.
“We are truly overwhelmed by their support, 540 ladies is amazing! Not only did we have participants from Strabane and local areas but many also travelled from Donegal, Limavady and even Armagh! It was an excellent night with a great atmosphere and all feedback has been extremely positive."
She added: "Everyone who participated in our midnight walk has made a difference here locally in our community, with monies raised going toward the ongoing provision of specialised palliative care to those terminally ill with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, as well as support services to their families and loved ones.
“A special mention of thanks must also goes to the men who turned out on the night to volunteer as stewards, helping keep our ladies safe, as well as St Johns Ambulance.
“Thanks to our volunteer support team, led by Brigid McElroy in Strabane, based through our Hospice shop on Church Street.
“I would also like to thank our sponsors, Maria Brennan from Eclipse Cinema Lifford/Strabane, Heron Bros Ltd, Claire Hegarty from Smashbox Cosmetics, and William Grant and Co Ltd for supplying the bacon for the butties at the finish!
“I can promise all ladies the event will be back, bigger and better, next year, so a date for all your diaries is Friday, June 24, 2011!"
